New Drawings!

Finally a title with the words NEW DRAWINGS!  It has been a while.  Sometimes I get busy and think I don't have the time or energy to start a new drawing.  I forget that I am happiest when I have an unfinished drawing on the window sill waiting to be picked up.  It is possible to be busy and draw!  It is possible to be busy and draw!  I remind myself again and again.

This is the time of year where people start looking forward to the holidays.  We really like Christmas, but what we are looking forward to is the stock show!  The National Western Club hosts a great art show every year and I have been invited back by the show's very talented director, Shaylah Perkins.  This has been my favorite show for so many years.  I love the venue and the people and just can't wait.

I have two finished drawings for the NWSS so far.  The first is a drawing of one of our horses, Lucy.  Last summer, Lucy became our first official pasture ornament.  She has weak deep flexors, so we don't ride often and  she does great when we don't.  She just happens to be one of the most beautiful sorrel mares that I have ever seen, with a personality to match.  I have big plans for her at the ranch and on paper!  You can see the original of Lucy at the Evergreen Art Association's member show in Evergreen, Co.

The second finished drawing is of our blue heeler, Waylon.  This dog is so smart, funny, a lil strange and very expressive.  So, I had to do a portrait.  The next drawing in this series will be of Waylon and our red heeler, Bullet.  Fresh out of the creek and looking like they just got away with something good!  I will put the drawing of Waylon and some funny dog pics on my site next week.

It's getting cold on the ranch in Wyoming and the leaves have almost fallen.  We were spoiled by a long, warm fall and the colorful leaves hung on as long as they could.  It was a beautiful fall, but we're ready for winter!  Bring on the snow and the wind, so we can hug the warm horses while their breath clouds around us and go sledding in the draws.  I hope to take some pictures of the horses and kids this winter to see if I can somehow get the way we feel to show in a drawing.

I even have a work in progress!  This drawing is of one of the horses at the ranch.  He is young and smart and blue roan, which ain't easy to draw.  I will post pics of this drawing in progress, until I am finished.  Hopefully sooner than later!  Lots of detail in this one.  Look for it under Works in Progress on my website sometime later tonight.
