A portrait of a friend’s favorite horse, a mare he simply called “Mama.” She was the mother of several of his favorite mares and held a special place in his life. He was one of those rare cowboys who preferred mares to geldings—a sentiment I happen to share.
Mama spent her life on our ranch and eventually passed away there. I drew this portrait as a gift for him, a remembrance of a good mare and the generations she left behind.
